Tabletop potentials for inflation from f(R) gravity

چکیده

Abstract We show that a large class of modified gravity theories (MOG) with the Jordan-frame Lagrangian f ( R ) translate into scalar-field (scalaron) models hilltop potentials in Einstein frame. (A rare exception to this rule is provided by Starobinsky model for which corresponding scalaron potential plateau-like ϕ > 0.) find MOG featuring two distinct mass scales lead have flattened hilltop, or tabletop . Inflationary evolution agrees very well CMB observations. Tabletop therefore provide new and compelling MOG-based inflationary models. By contrast, single scale generally correspond steep fail reproduce power spectrum. hilltop/tabletop can proceed alternative directions: towards stable point at small describing observable universe, asymptotic region The we examine several properties including fact become asymptotically vanishing, G eff → 0, infinite finite values scalar curvature A universe evolving vanishing will either run 'Big-Rip' singularity, inflate eternally.

Inflation from Quantum Gravity

In recent years cosmologists are repeatedly invoking quantum fluctuations to "explain" the origin of the universe [1 ]. We discuss here one such model in which our observed universe originates from a primordial "Planck size bubble" through inflation. The final state of the universe will have zero cosmological constant and zero spatial curvature with overwhelming probability. The analysis is bas...

Gravity Driven Inflation

The union of high-energy particle theories and gravitation often gives rise to an evolving strength of gravity. The standard picture of the earliest universe would certainly deserve revision if the Planck mass, which de nes the strength of gravity, varied. A notable consequence is a gravity-driven, kinetic in ation. Unlike standard in ation, there is no potential nor cosmological constant. The ...

Quantum Gravity Slows Inflation

We consider the quantum gravitational back-reaction on an initially inflating, homogeneous and isotropic universe whose topology is T 3 × R. Although there is no secular effect at one loop, an explicit calculation shows that two-loop processes act to slow the rate of expansion by an amount which becomes non-perturbatively large at late times. By exploiting Feynman’s tree theorem we show that al...

Gravity Waves and String Inflation

We present a simple mechanism for obtaining large-field inflation, and hence a gravitational wave signature, from string theory compactified on twisted tori. For Nil manifolds, we obtain a leading inflationary potential proportional to φ in terms of the canonically normalized field φ, yielding predictions for the tilt of the power spectrum and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, ns ≈ 0.98 and r ≈ 0.04 ...

Mass Inflation in Quantum Gravity

Using the canonical formalism for spherically symmetric black hole inside the apparent horizon we investigate the mass inflation in the Reissner-Nordström black hole in the framework of quantum gravity. It is shown that like in classical gravity the combination of the effects of the influx coming from the past null infinity and the outflux backscattered by the black hole’s curvature causes the ...
